Ha ha, well Mallorca is known for rude hotel staff, xenophobia, and hostility towards foreigners. I lived there for six years so I know the place pretty well. It´s a very beautiful island, but the negative behaviours were why I left two years ago. Mallorquins are VERY insular people and have quite a strange mentality. They DO want foreign cash. They DON´T want foreigners. Quite a greedy place actually. Beautiful, but also sleazy.

I love Valencia & am an ex-pat, though Russafa is seriously overrated & seems to have am ex-pat obsession. Fine to visit, but I would not choose to live there 24/7. There are other parts of Valencia that are much cheaper and have more of a sense of community!

Let's be real, nothing is "free," it's paid for with taxes. But you're actually getting something for your taxes paid. The infrastructure and healthcare is first rate... I do love Spain and the way of life is out of this world..

Good video. We fled the US 2 years ago and moved to the Caribbean. Visited Spain & France for the first time this month and can't wait to return. My hubby is being relocated to Germany this summer for about 2 years. I can't wait to explore by plane, train and car. After that, we will probably want to stay in Europe, but somewhere warmer and sunnier.

I haven’t had time to properly digest everything that I’ve experienced. I write this comment whilst in Florence I am Australian with a Mediterranean background. The amount of obnoxious and pretentious Americans is truly foul. I have been shocked at how rude, loud and overall disgusting these people are. But also, the residents of Florence are also rude and unwelcoming. Hospitable is not apart of the florentine language. I get it. There’s a huge influx of tourists and it’s annoying as a resident - but also, 10.5% of the Italian economy (200b) is derived from tourism. It’s a double edged sword but, I believe that They should be grateful for the amount of money that tourists spend in their country . My opinion of Italy has changed following my time in the north. Italians are also rude, pretentious, unwelcoming and for little to no reason. I can literally smell the sewerage as I walk the streets of Florence, Pisa, bologna and Milan. There are piles of rubbish stacked head high on the corner of most streets. There’s very little to be proud of in 2024. Italy is not what it used to be and it will never be what it was again. Blame it on tourism and immigration. The amount of Africans and asians I saw in a southern European country was shocking. I couldn’t believe it.

I've been looking at residency in Spain but the income tax system appears to be punitive. The tax on a pension is higher too. No-one ever mentions this except if you speak to the Spanish. The bureaucracy is mind-numbing and the state-snooping is everywhere. Even buying a toaster or bicycle requires an NIE number. The banks also are very restrictive. Any cash deposit over 999€ sets 'alarm bells' ringing. A withdrawal of cash from an ATM incurs a charge of €7.50. Renting out a room in your home requires 3-monthly form filling . Is it all worth it? Perhaps better to stay for 3-months as a tourist and then move on ?

I lived in Spain for five years and loved every minute of it. There is no woke culture whatsoever, no political correctness, and a family-oriented culture. The food is fresh and devoid of all the processed chemicals we have in the U.S. The cost of living is considerably cheaper. The one caveat: the local economy is not great so ensure that you have a job in a nation with a higher salary such as the U.S. or Germany.
